Mercedes to build Maybach S580 limo in India

The Maybach S580 is likely to be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) kit to be assembled locally.

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the Maybach S 580 in India later this year. It has now been reported that the luxury limousine will be assembled at the company's Chakan plant.

The Maybach S 580 is based on the W223 S-Class and measures 5.5 meters in length. It has a Maybach specific chrome grille, a dual-tone exterior with lots of chrome trim.

The Maybach S 580 gets wider rear doors that can be operated electrically. The driver can operate the rear doors using the 'doormen' feature. The car has adjustable bucket seats with deployable leg rests. There are two 11.6-inch monitors at the back. The Executive Rear Seat package adds wood trims, full-length centre console, tray tables, and a champagne cooler with custom sold metal flutes.

The Maybach S 580 is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It produces 496 BHP and 700 Nm and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The car comes with rear axle steering as standard.

In addition to the Maybach S 580, Mercedes-Benz also plans to introduce the V12-powered Maybach S 680 in India. Unlike the former, this variant will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).
