Mercedes-Benz India commences local assembly of C 220 CDI

Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it has commenced local assembly of the new C 220 CDI sedan at its Chakan facility. The car is now available at an ex-showroom, Delhi price of Rs. 37.90 lakh for the Style variant and Rs. 39.90 lakh for the Avantgarde variant. Earlier, the two variants were priced at Rs. 39.90 lakh and Rs. 42.90 lakh respectively.

Locally assembled cars attract a lesser rate of duty compared to those brought imported as CBUs. That is one of the reasons why Mercedes-Benz has been able to bring down prices. Additionally, the company has increased the amount of localization for the C 220 CDI to 60%.

The C 220 CDI diesel is powered by a 2,143 cc, 4-cylinder engine that produces 168 BHP @ 3,000 -4,200 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,400-2,800 rpm. The car has a 7-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims that the C 220 CDI will do a 0-100 kph sprint in 7.4 seconds and touch a top speed of 233 kph. The engine comes with a, ECO start/stop feature, which the company claims, improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. The claimed fuel economy figure for the C 220 CDI is 19.27 kpl. The car also gets an Agility Select drive mode selector, which enables drivers to choose between comfort, economy, sport, sport+ or individual driving modes.

Mercedes-Benz has equipped the C 220 CDI with a host of safety features such as seven airbags, ABS, BAS, ESP, ASR, hill start assist, attention assist and adaptive high beam assist among others.
