Mercedes-AMG Performance Centers could sell MV Agusta bikes

Mercedes-AMG cars are expected to share their floor space with MV Agusta motorcycles at the AMG Performance Centers. In a conversation with Automotive News Europe, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said that MV Agusta buyers have similar profiles as Mercedes-AMG customers. The Italian motorcycle maker will share a similar relationship as the one Ducati had with Mercedes-AMG, prior to the 860 million Euro takeover by Volkswagen AG in 2012.

Capitalizing on AMG's presence of 260 Performance Centers globally, MV Agusta stands to benefit with a wider reach. It could also prove to be the catalyst needed to improve the brand's sales.

The current relationship between the two brands will focus more on the marketing and sales division. Zetsche has confirmed that Mercedes-AMG will play no role in deciding what engines MV Agusta will use on its motorcycles. The German car maker won't use motorcycle engines in their passenger vehicles anytime soon either. However, with a rising interest in compact and lightweight engines for cars, MV Agusta's expertise should prove valuable. MV Agusta's product line up currently includes a variety of 3 and 4 cylinder engines used on motorcycles of different body styles.
