Mahindra XUV500 sells 1 lakh units in 34 months

M&M announced that their flagship SUV - XUV500 has achieved a recorded sale of 1 lakh units within a span of 34 months. This has made the XUV500 the first premium SUV to achieve this milestone in the Indian car market. The car has been consistently selling over 2,800 units a month and in January 2014 we had reported about its achievement of 75,000 units.

The XUV500 was launched in September 2011 and it seemed to take the market by storm. The car was priced aggressively with a long list of equipment and performance that could match its cheetah-inspired exterior design. It was a value for money proposition and the Indian car buyers flocked to Mahindra showrooms to purchase this SUV. The response was such that Mahindra had to close bookings of this car for a short duration as it could not match up to the over-whelming demand for it.

At present, the XUV500 is sold in Australia, South Africa, Italy, along with a few South American and African markets, apart from India. Mahindra is looking to expand its operations by introducing this SUV to newer international markets.
