Suzuki plans to launch 4 scooters, 2 motorcycles in India

Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited, is gearing up to expand its portfolio with the addition of six new two-wheelers, which will be launched by the end of this year.

Four of the six new products will be scooters in the 100-125 cc range, indicating that the company is paying more attention to the scooter segment, which has been growing at a rapid rate. With a market share of 12% (excluding scooterettes), Suzuki currently occupies the fourth position in the 3.6 million unit scooter market. The company sells around 3.5 lakh scooters annually, which is about half of what second ranking Hero MotoCorp sells and less than a fifth of market leader Honda manages. With the introduction of new products, Suzuki will be looking to challenge third placed player - TVS.

The remaining two products that Suzuki is lining up for launch are motorcycles. Suzuki is aiming to touch 7.5 lakh units in production and sales in 3 years with a mix of 35% motorcycles and 65% scooters. At present the ratio stands at 80:20 in favour of scooters.

Some of the products in the company's plans include the Gixxer 150 cc motorcycle and new variants of the Swish and Access scooters. The Let's scooter was launched recently. Suzuki has no plans to launch a 150 cc scooter.
