Jehan Daruvala wins his first Formula 3 race at Norisring

Indian racer and Sahara Force India Academy driver, Jehan Daruvala has won his first-ever Formula 3 race, in the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Norisring. He has thus become the second Indian driver to stand on the top step of the Formula 3 podium after Narain Karthikeyan, who claimed two victories in the 1999 British F3 championships.

Jehan started the race in the second position on the grid. However, he managed to overtake pole sitter Maximilian Günther at the start and led the race throughout. Maximilian did try to narrow the gap and mount pressure on the rookie driver, but the Indian kept his cool and managed to keep his car away from the concrete barriers of the 2.3 km long street circuit of Norisring.

Jehan eventually finished the 40-lap race with a gap of 0.458 seconds to championship leader Maximilian Günther. They were joined on the podium by Lando Norris, who got the tenth podium finish of his rookie season. Norris, who is a McLaren junior driver, is also the most successful rookie driver of the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, followed by Jehan Daruvala.
