Jeep Wagoneer concept showcased as a luxury SUV

Jeep has unveiled a new concept 3-row SUV called the Grand Wagoneer. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are scheduled to go into production next year at the FCA Michigan plant.

The concept looks very close to being ready for production. At the front, the car gets a full-width LED bar and the traditional 7-slat Jeep grille with slim headlamps on both sides. The SUV gets large windows with chrome borders on the sides along with chrome lettering on the front doors. On the inside, it gets a 2-spoke multi-function steering wheel and multiple displays including one for the driver information, in-car entertainment and air-con controls.

The Wagoneer name was first used for a luxury SUV back in 1963. The car offered features like an automatic gearbox with a 4x4 system, independent front suspension, leather upholstery, air-conditioning, AM/FM/CB radio and more.

The 3-row luxury SUV segment in the US is a highly profitable. Players like Chevrolet and GMC already have offerings in this segment, while Cadillac and Lincoln compete in the luxury segment one tier up. FCA currently does not have an offering in both these segments. The Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer will compete in these segments respectively

While details of the engines and transmissions have not yet been revealed, it is confirmed that it will get a 4x4 system and an automatic gearbox. It is likely to share these components with the Ram 1500 pickup truck. Prices are expected to start at US$ 60,000 for the Wagoneer and US$ 100,000 for the Grand Wagoneer.
