Jeep finally coming to India in 2015

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles' head of international operations - Mr. Mike Manley has confirmed that Jeep will make it to India before the end of 2015, as reported earlier in this article. Jeep will launch its flagship SUV - Grand Cherokee and the rugged, go-anywhere SUV - Wrangler.

Mr. Manley also hinted at local assembly of the vehicles, possibly at the Fiat-Tata manufacturing plant at Ranjangaon, near Pune. Going the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route will ensure that the cars are competitively priced in the Indian market compared to the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route which was being considered earlier.

Presently, Fiat has 115 dealerships across India but Mr. Manley plans to launch around 15-20 exclusive Jeep dealerships at the time of launch of the brand.

Penetrating into an emerging market such as India is essential to attain the company's objective of being a global brand. The company had earlier delayed its plans to introduce the Jeep brand in India as the company needed more time to study the Indian market.
