Issues & long wait time for parts makes me want to sell off my Octavia

The Octavia Mk4 is 2.5 years old and clocked just 25,000 km to date.

BHPian rsk recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have had my share of woes too and many of them are the same as what some of the other fellow BHPians are going through with the MK4. Just haven't had the time off late to get to the forum.

  1. My last service was in October 2023. I had booked the appointment in advance and the car was delivered back to me after service in a record time of 5-6 hours. I was pleasantly surprised at the turnaround. Took the car out of the service centre and drove 500 mts the infotainment unit was acting weird (randomly restarting) and I took the car back to the service centre. Upon scanning/due diligence diagnosis was to replace the Infotainment unit. It took them 10-12 days to source the unit, replace and hand over the vehicle back to me.
  2. In February 2024, the car was not driven continuously for about 10 days. When I started the car I saw errors from every single sensor in the dashboard - Error ESC, manoeuvre braking unavailable, Hills assist error, TPMS etc., The vehicle was in drivable condition and i took it to the service centre again. The car went through the same drill of scanning and observation but came back as nothing. No root cause. No rat bites, the only possible culprit was the battery, but even that was given a clean chit. I haven't had any issues since then. But I still don't know why the problem occurred in the first place.
  3. Now, in May 2024, I was out of Bangalore and was planning my return trip. The evening before the drive when I started the car, I got a Gear Selector error. I turned off the vehicle and restarted. The error went away. On the day of the trip, during the first start, I got the error again which went away upon restarting the car. The car was completely fine for the entire journey (600 kms) including the regular stops. 2 days after returning to Bangalore, the error became persistent. I took the car to the service centre on 27th May. 2 days later I was told that this needed part replacement and would be covered under warranty (don't recollect the exact part name). To just give me the ETA on the part availability, has taken 4 days. Last week, I was finally told that the part will be available on 14th June. The service center guys asked me to take the vehicle back citing the vehicle is driveable. I asked them to tell me in writing that the car would not break down because of this specific issue only then I'm ready to take the vehicle back and they backed off. I spoke to Skoda India customer care, and that too is of no use. I have seen a few others in the forum facing a similar error and the ETA for something that seems to be reasonably common is 3-4 weeks!

All in all, I'm very worried. The car is 2.5 years old, ~25k driven. While it was an informed decision that buying a CKD would involve a level of wait time for parts, having to wait too often is causing grief. With just 1.5 years left on the Extended warranty some of these parts are upwards of 1 lakh is adding to the anxiety. I have also been contemplating selling the car and getting something else that will at least not be plagued by a perpetual wait time on parts.
