India-spec Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe details revealed

The Citroen Basalt is a direct rival to the upcoming Tata Curvv, which will be launched on August 7.

Citroen has officially revealed the India-spec Basalt SUV Coupe. It is expected to be launched in the coming weeks, and compete with the Tata Curvv.

The Citroen Basalt shares its underpinnings with the C3 Aircross. However, its wheelbase of 2,651 mm is 20 mm shorter than that of the C3 Aircross. Ground clearance has also dropped to 180 mm, while its boot capacity is 470 litres.

The Basalt features a split headlamp design with a set of projectors and V-shaped LED DRLs. It has the signature Citroen logo in the centre and a chunky front bumper with a large air dam flanked by a set of fog lamps. The SUV has square-ish wheel arches with black cladding around them. They house dual-tone alloy wheels.

The rear of the Basalt looks unmistakably Citroen. The coupe-like roofline blends into a short tail section. It has large wraparound taillights, a dual-tone rear bumper with a silver skid plate, a black roof and a shark-fin antenna.

The Basalt gets a dual-tone interior with a 3-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The car is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a wireless charger, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and cruise control. The rear seat passengers get dedicated AC vents and contoured headrests for added comfort.

The Citroen Basalt will be offered with the same set of engines as the C3 Aircross. These include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 81 BHP and 115 Nm and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 108 BHP and 190 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, with the latter getting a 6-speed automatic option.
