Anil Ambani's Reliance Infra plans to build electric cars in India

The company plans to set up an EV manufacturing plant with an initial capacity of 2,50,000 units per annum.

According to media reports, Reliance Infrastructure is planning to enter the EV and battery manufacturing business. The company is said to have roped in ex-BYD executive Sanjay Gopalakrishnan to advise on its plans.

The Anil Ambani-led company has hired consultants to conduct a “cost feasibility” study for setting up an EV manufacturing plant with an initial capacity of 2,50,000 units per annum, with the possibility of scaling it up to 7,50,000 units.

The company is also evaluating setting up a battery manufacturing plant. It is currently looking into the feasibility of building a plant with 10 GWh capacity, which could be expanded to up to 75 GWh over a decade.

The report also states that Anil Ambani’s Reliance Infra is seeking partners, including Chinese companies, to finalize its plans within a few months. That being said, there has been no official word from the company regarding the latest developments.
