Hyundai officially unveils Creta SUV

Hyundai has unveiled the upcoming Creta compact SUV in India. The vehicle is expected to be launched in July 2015.

The Creta has a body shell made of ultra-high tensile steel. Hyundai claims that the 'hive structure' of the Creta uses high strength steel which gives it rigidity and better structural safety. The car's roof structure has multiple cross members which enhance strength and give it more loading capacity. The SUV also features 'ring-shaped frames' which means that each pillar, including the centre pillar, body side frames and bottom are positioned in a ring-like layout. Hyundai claims that this ring-structure frame results in a significant increase in body stiffness.

The Creta features Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. It has a singular hexagonal grille with three horizontal slats, sweptback projector headlamps, LED day-time running rights and quadrangular fog lamps, skid plates at the front and rear, roof rails, black body cladding, blackened A and B-pillars, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna.

Hyundai has equipped the Creta with features such as a 7-inch Audio Video Navigation system (AVN) or a 5-inch touchscreen audio system, 1 GB of memory, keyless entry and go, automatic climate control with cluster ionizer, rear air-conditioner vents, multifunction steering wheel and electric folding ORVMs. Safety features include six airbags, anti-lock braking System (ABS), reverse parking camera, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM) and hill-start assist control (HAC).

Hyundai claims that it has taken multiple measures to keep the NHV levels of the Creta low. These include higher thickness of the dash panel, anti-vibration pads on floor panel and optimization of the central floor tunnel area rigidity among others.

The Creta is available with a choice of three engines:

1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, Dual VTVT petrol, 121 BHP

U2 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, CRDi diesel, 89 BHP

U2 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, CRDi VGT diesel, 126 BHP, 6-speed manual / 6-speed automatic transmission
