Honda City diesel Owner shares 1L km Update after 4 years of ownership

Touch wood, my vehicle has served really well till date, will keep it for a longer time.

BHPian kanna.sridharan recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Just sharing my thoughts after my car crossed 1L kms last month, its taken 4 years and 4 months. Serves me really well and the cost of running has been easy on the pocket.

In these 4 years- apart from the regular oil services, I have had to replace rotors twice, I don't think the Honda rotors are of good quality, my last replacement was at ODO 80K, just after 15k kms, there is vibration at the pedal, though there is no shortfall in braking performance, just that it does not give confidence.

I'm on the 3rd set of tyres, the OE Bridgestone removed them at 28K kms replaced with Michelin Primacy 3, replaced with Michelin Primacy 4 at 88K kms. Love the Michelins.

Mileage -

Best - 19.90 kmpl (was patient only a couple of drives to get this figure), worst - 15.70 kmpl, averaging - 17 kmpl (on all my highway drives, with decent triple digit speeds)

Comfort -

Has been excellent through all our journeys, kids love the rear seats, the AC cooling is great, set it at 25~26 and it does a pretty good job with low fan noise.

At the 1L kms service, they have not replaced timing belt, stating that it is not mandatory to change, of all the cars I have owned, I found this a bit strange, all the other cars I have either replaced at 1L or at 60K kms as per their regular maintenance requirements. The clutch is holding good till now.

Noise and Vibration

I feel my car holds good at the speeds I drive, as for the same speeds in a petrol manual - I found it to be very noisy, some say they sound nice, my wife totally disagrees. My car roof has had squeaking sounds since my delivery, no matter how many times they correct it, it starts again after 500 kms, so just left it as it is.

Touch wood, my vehicle has served really well till date, will keep it for a longer time. Not able to decide on my next car, as the cars I like are too big and there are no compact ones which are powerful and spacious. I definitely need a more powerful car next time, and its time to switch to an Auto, 25+ years of driving manual over 7 cars, I need to give my left leg a break, will be looking mostly at 2l engines, preferably diesel or maybe turbo petrols ( nothing is in my budget).

Cheers and Happy miles to all
