Honda to build Mobilio at Noida, Jazz at Tapukara

Honda Cars India Ltd. inaugurated a new plant in India at Tapukara, Rajasthan. It was widely speculated that all the cars based on the platform of the Brio hatchback would be built here. That would include the Brio, the Amaze sedan and the yet to be launched Mobilio MPV.

However, now it turns out that the Mobilio will be built at Honda's Greater Noida facility. In fact, the Tapukara plant will build the new Jazz hatchback, which was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo along with the Mobilio. A report by Autocar Professional claims that the Greater Noida plant will roll out 45,000 units of the Mobilio annually, while the Tapukara plant will manufacture 20,000 units of the Jazz per year. Production of the Mobilio will commence in June 2014, while that of the Jazz starts in July.

Both, the Mobilio and the Jazz are likely to be available with a choice of two engines - petrol and diesel. But, while the Mobilio is expected to adopt its engines from the City sedan, the Jazz is likely to be powered by the 1.2-litre, petrol engine from the Brio / Amaze.  The diesel will be the same one that is used in the Amaze / City.

Both cars are expected to be launched in the second quarter of FY 2014-15.
