Ducati officially enters India, to set up its own network

Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati has officially entered the Indian market. Since 2008, Ducati has been selling bikes in the country through an importer, Precision Motors.

Precision Motors lacked the capability to handle Ducati’s operations. Delays in deliveries of bikes, unavailability of spare parts and incompetent after-sales support resulted in customers demanding a reorganisation of the dealership and service network.

Responding to this demand, Ducati has ended its relationship with Precision Motors and is in the process of setting up its own dealership and service network. Precision Motors will continue to sell and provide service for Ducati’s products till the company’s distribution network is set up.

With Harley-Davidson leading the premium motorcycle segment and Triumph launching its bikes at competitive prices, India is no longer a market that Ducati can afford to neglect. Apart from setting up its distribution network, Ducati will have to consider local assembly of its bikes as that will help keep their prices low.
