BMW X1 7-seater spied. May get plug-in hybrid powertrain

Earlier this year, BMW revealed the all-new X1, which is slated to hit the Indian market soon, with the vehicle already spotted in India. A series of close range spy shots now give us a close look at BMW's entry level crossover in its 7-seater guise. Rumoured to be named the X1 grand or X1 grand tourer (GT), the model will be more of a 5+2 seater as the additional seats won't offer much in terms of leg room.

The 7-seater X1 will feature more MPV like proportions and going by the images of the test mule, it features different bumpers, tweaked head and tail lights, and perhaps a slightly taller roofline as well.

Almost every spy shot of the X1 grand tourer has seen the test mules with a "hybrid test vehicle" sticker at the rear and reports suggest that the car will employ a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well, that will use the 1.5L, 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine which has been used in existing BMW and MINI vehicles. The powertrains offered will also include the options offered with the standard model.
