BMW 330i GT M-Sport: Cracked door pad replaced under warranty

BMW usually does not cover this part under warranty but it seems that now it has made some changes to the warranty policy.

BHPian graaja recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Door pad replaced under warranty

The rubber lining on the driver side door pad had become gooey and had started developing cracks. This is a very common problem with BMWs. I have seen this problem reported by other members and that BMW usually does not cover this part under warranty.

Looks like BMW has changed its warranty policy on this part. I had shown this issue during the 6th oil service and the SA said he will raise a warranty claim and keep the replacement ready. During the last oil service (the 7th) he said BMW had approved the warranty replacement and he has received the part, and they changed it during the service. Below pictures are the cracked part before replacement and the new replaced part.

The cracked part.

The replaced part.

Here's what BHPian lordtottuu had to say about the matter:

It's a little unsettling to see BMW still hasn't worked out their rubber issues in Indian conditions. Every single BMW owner I've spoken to has or is facing the exact same issue.

Gotta say, regardless of BMW now fixing it under warranty, it feels utter rubbish that we have to face this in the first place. You'd think 12 years is long enough to work out material science and supply chain niggles for this specific problem.

Here's what BHPian sandeepmohan had to say about the matter:

Yup. I have the exact same issue. I bought my car used so don't have the backup BMW would otherwise provide. I am living with it for now. Will attempt a DIY after I source the part. The other problem I have is the plastic handle creeks. While it looks elegant, it feels cheap and flimsy. Not fit to be on a BMW for sure.

Good on BMW India for acknowledging there is a fault with the door grab.
