Yamaha has taken the wraps off the Sports Ride concept car at the 2015 Tokyo motor show. The 2-seater sports car concept is said to draw its design inspiration from a motorcycle and has been designed by McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR Mclaren designer Gordon Murray.
The car makes the use of the iStream developed carbon chassis enabling a vehicle weight of just 750 kgs. Measuring 3,900 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width and 1,170 mm in height, the car's design is reminiscent of other compact coupes like the Toyota MR-2 and Mazda MX-5.
Reports suggested the inclusion of a plug-in hybrid or all electric powertrain, but given the heavy weight associated with such setups, Yamaha may choose to go with a modified version of one of the engines that powers its high end motorcycles. Apart from the Pagani Huayra like styling on the inside, the concept car also had an automatic transmission.
While there hasn't been any talk of what powertrain the car will use or if it will even be put into production, Yamaha says the car has been designed to offer a drive experience that is akin to riding a motorcycle. Given the compact proportions, light weight and Yamaha's engineering + Gordon Murray's design, we sure hope this isn't a car limited to motor shows.

Volvo has unveiled a new luxury interior concept that targets the wants of high profile executives who are always on the move. Labelled the Lounge Console, the XC90 based concept offers chauffeur-driven businessmen the option of expanding the vehicle’s storage capacity and providing added comfort. The Lounge Console replaces the front passenger seat altogether and offers a few added creature comforts for the rear passenger.
Features include a large work table which opens to reveal an illuminated vanity mirror and an integrated storage tray for jewellery and personal accessories. The table rotates 90 degrees and simultaneously powers forward to display a 17-inch entertainment system screen. What would be the front passenger’s under-side cushion, is a cushioned leg rest on the concept. Under the leg rest is an additional area for storing shoes and a lockable storage box.
The concept is Volvo's way of boosting its image as a premium car maker and capitalizing on the positive response received by the new XC90 SUV. It has also been developed to improve focus on markets like China, where rear passenger-centric designs are popular.
