Mahindra continues to test the Maxximo Electric

In September 2014, we had reported that Mahindra was testing an electric version of the Maxximo minivan in Bangalore (click here to read report). Then in January 2015, the company went on to announce that the vehicle was expected to be production-ready in FY 2016. Mahindra's plans seem to be on track. The Maxximo Electric has been spotted testing with what appears to be a production-ready body.

The Maxximo Electric has been developed by Mahindra Reva and a badge on the tail gate of the van leaves no doubt about that. It is an 8-seater mini-van powered by an electric motor that can put out around 20 bhp 62 Nm of torque. It has lithium-ion batteries which can be fully charged in 8 hours. Mahindra claims a range of 100 km on a single charge and an electronically limited top speed of 65 kph for the Maxximo Electric.

Earlier this year, four units of the Maxximo Electric were supplied by Mahindra to the Agra Development Authority to ferry tourists from Shilpgram to the East Gate of the Taj Mahal (click here to read report). In the future, they could also be used for transporting tourists to Mehtab Bagh for night viewing of the Taj Mahal. These minivans are being used along the Taj Zero Emission Corridor, in an attempt to reduce vehicular pollution.
