US: VW admits emission irregularities in 75,000 3.0 TDi cars

Earlier there were questions raised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board whether or not VW's 3.0 TDi engines were fitted with the defeat device, like the 2.0 TDi engines.

Reuters reports that VW has admitted emissions issues in additional 75,000 vehicles from the Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche stable, powered by the 3.0 TDi engine (since 2009 till date). Audi admitted that their vehicles were fitted with an auxiliary emissions control equipment. Although this is legal in Europe, it wasn't notified to the US regulators.

Audi spokesperson says that the company is willing to reprogram the software to ensure that it is acceptable by the regulators. The cost of this is likely to be a couple of million euros.

The report goes on to suggest that an additional $3.2 billion fine could be slapped on the VW group.
