Uber launches uberACCESS and uberASSIST in Bangalore

Uber has launched uberACCESS and uberASSIST services in Bangalore. The new ride choices are aimed at riders with special needs, like senior citizens and the differently abled. The uberASSIST service is available from October 31, 2017 while the uberACCESS rides will begin soon.

According to Uber India, trained drivers will be appointed for uberACCESS and uberASSIST programs. These drivers have been certified by Diversity and Equal Opportunity Centre (DEOC) and are trained to assist senior citizens and those with accessibility needs.

The ride-hailing company has launched 500 uberASSIST vehicles in Bangalore. Passengers who require additional assistance can now book an uberASSIST. These vehicles have a provision to store foldable wheelchairs.

Uber also plans to introduce 50 retrofitted uberACCESS vehicles in the first phase. These vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic wheelchair lift. The mechanism is able to lift the wheel chair into the vehicle through the rear door with the passenger facing forward. Four-point tie-down straps help secure the wheelchair to the floor of the vehicle.

The Uber App allows users to track the ride in real time and allows friends and family members to remotely follow the trip. In addition to that, users can share their estimated time of arrival as well.
