Toyota drops Etios Liva Sportivo from line-up

Toyota has dropped the Etios Liva Sportivo from its model line-up.

While the regular Liva came with a 1.2-litre, 79 BHP petrol engine, the Sportivo was powered by a 1.5-litre unit that developed 89 BHP @ 5,600 rpm and 132 Nm of torque @ 3,000 rpm. It was Toyota's attempt at attracting more customers for the otherwise not-so-appealing Liva hatchback. The Sportivo was also available with a diesel engine - the same unit that is found in the regular Liva diesel.

Sales of the Liva have been pretty dismal. Toyota has not been able to move even 2,000 units every month. With more cars entering the market and the competition getting tougher, the chances of the ageing hatchback attracting more customers are slim. This could be the reason that the company has pulled the plug on the variant.
