Skoda Kodiaq scores 5-star rating in Euro NCAP

Skoda Kodiaq has gained a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The model tested was a left-hand drive variant in the Ambition trim that comes with 7 airbags, seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters, ISOFIX rear child seat mounts and seat belt reminder. It is also equipped with driver assistance features like autonomous emergency braking, speed assistance and an optional lane-assist system.

The Kodiaq scored 92% points in adult occupancy protection. The passenger compartment of the SUV was found to be stable in the frontal offset test, while the dummies were appropriately insulated from any fatal blows or injuries. The Kodiaq also scored full points in the side barrier test. Whiplash protection offered from the front seats was found to be good, while that of the rear seats was rated marginal. The tested model was equipped with autonomous emergency braking system that performed properly at low speed in test conditions.

In child occupancy protection, the Kodiaq earned 77% points. While protection for dummies of 6-year and 10-year olds was good in the frontal offset test, the dummy of a 10-year old showed some poor readings of neck tension. The side barrier test also showcased good protection for both dummies. The SUV scored 71% in pedestrian safety and 54% in the safety assist features department.

Skoda India is expected to launch the Kodiaq SUV around the festive season this year. It remains to be seen what all changes are made to the India-spec car, as compared to the LHD model that has been tested by Euro NCAP.
