Seat Arona crossover spotted testing in Pune

A test mule of the Seat Arona has been spotted testing on the outskirts of Pune.

Seat is a Spanish brand which is part of the Volkswagen Group. The Arona is based on the MQB A0 platform which is shared with other Volkswagen Group models. A heavily localized version of this this platform called the MQB A0 IN will underpin the India-bound VW Taigun and Skoda Vision IN SUVs. Therefore, it is likely that VW could be using the Arona for internal benchmarking purposes.

Just like the Taigun and Skoda Vision IN, the Arona has a distinct exterior design with simple, clean lines. Under the bonnet could be a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine that will also be offered in the Taigun and Vision IN SUVs. This motor produces 146 BHP @ 5,000-6,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,500-3,500 rpm. It will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As part of its India 2.0 strategy, the VW Group is shifting its focus to the SUV segment. The carmaker plans to increase localization levels from 81% to 93% next year. The MQB A0 IN is part of this plan. It will enable the company to offer cost competitive products that could compete with the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and MG Hector.
