Rumour: WagonR-based 7-seat MPV to be launched in June 2019

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the WagonR-based 7-seater MPV in June 2019. It could be sold through the Nexa retail network.

The WagonR-based MPV is expected to be based on the same platform as the new WagonR hatchback. Reports suggest that it could feature a more premium interior with more features to differentiate it from the standard WagonR and Ertiga that are sold trough the Arena retail network.

The 7-seater WagonR MPV could be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that does duty in the WagonR hatchback. This engine produces 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4,200 rpm and is expected to be paired with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. Maruti might also offer hybrid and all-electric variants in the future.

The 7-seater WagonR-based MPV is expected to compete with the Datsun Go+ and the upcoming Renault Triber in the Indian market.
