Rumour: Volkswagen's upcoming compact sedan to be called Ameo

Earlier this year, we had reported that Volkswagen will be introducing a new compact sedan in India. It was reported that the car could be named Bora or Derby. However, according to a new media report, the car could be called Ameo.

The Ameo is expected to make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will measure less than 4 metres in lengths and is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engines that are used in the Polo. This will allow it to enjoy excise duty benefits. There are rumours that the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine and the automatic transmission from the Polo GT TSI may be used as well.

The Ameo will compete with other sub-4 metre sedans such as the Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Zest. It will be launched in the market during the next calendar year.
