Rumour: TVS Apache RTR 310 (Akula) to launch in July 2017

TVS is reported to be gearing up to launch the Apache RTR 310 in India in July 2017. An official announcement about the launch schedule hasn't yet been made by the bike maker though.

The RTR 310 will be a production model based on the Akula concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The final production name of the bike hasn't been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be introduced as the company's flagship offering under the Apache series.

The Apache RTR 310 has been jointly developed under the partnership of BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors. It will be based on the same platform that underpins the BMW G 310 R and will be powered by a 313 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the G 310 R is a naked street fighter, the Apache RTR 310 will be a fully-faired model.

It was earlier expected that BMW will launch the G 310 R in India ahead of the TVS Apache RTR 310. However, the German bike maker is reported to have delayed the G 310 R's launch to the end of this year. As a result, it is the Apache RTR 310 that is likely to be the first bike developed under the BMW-TVS alliance to be introduced in the country.

The Apache RTR 310 is expected to compete against the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the upcoming Benelli 302R.
