Rumour: Tata Nano EV to rival Mahindra e2o Plus

Tata Motors is believed to be working on an all-electric version of the Nano. According to a media report, the Nano EV is expected to be launched later this year.

It has been reported that the Nano EV will be launched for the taxi segment initially, where it will rival the Mahindra e2o Plus. While the final specifications of the Nano EV are yet to be announced, the Nano EV concept displayed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show used a super-polymer lithium battery which was claimed to offer a range of 160 km.

R&D for future electric powertrains has been taking place at the Tata Motors European Technical Centre in the UK. This is where the Bolt EV was developed and more recently, the Tiago-based EV. The latter is reportedly powered by an 85-kW electric motor which delivers 200 Nm of torque and has a maximum range of around 100 km per charge.

Tata Motors recently bagged a government contract to supply all-electric Tigor sedans. These will be built at Tata's Sanand facility and will be delivered in phases over the next 12 months.
