Rumour: Renault Captur India launch in 2018

The compact SUV fad has been around for quite a while, but it doesn't seem to be dying down. Ford still heavily relies on their one model wonder - the EcoSport. However, the compact SUV is going to see a strong onslaught of rivals over the next few years and if a media report is to be believed, Renault will be one of the brands bringing in a new contender. The Renault Captur - a compact SUV already sold in markets like the UK and France, could make its way to India in 2018.

Renault launched the Duster in 2012 and saw a good amount of success with the model. Like the Duster, the Captur too crosses the 4-metre length mark. However, the report by Business Standard says the India spec Captur could be chopped down to fall below that length, making it eligible for excise duty benefits. Engine options are expected to include a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel mill. If Renault does launch the Captur in 2018, the rivals at the time will most likely include models such as the Ford EcoSport, Maruti YBA, Mahindra S101 and even the Tata Nexon.

The Captur's launch in India is still up for speculation, but the Lodgy MPV will be launched this year.
