Rumour: Maruti to launch Jimny as next-gen Gypsy in India

According to Nikkei, Maruti could launch a new SUV based on the Jimny Sierra in India. It may be introduced as the next generation Gypsy.

The fourth generation Jimny was launched in Japan in July 2018. The compact SUV is only available in a 3-door bodystyle. However, Suzuki could develop a 5-door long-wheelbase version for markets like India. The right-hand drive version of the Jimny is rumoured to be built at Maruti's Gujarat plant.

In the international market, the Suzuki Jimny is offered with two petrol engine options, including a 660cc, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. It comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission with low range and all-wheel drive.
