Rumour: Maruti Jimny India launch in 2021

According to a media report, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny could go on sale in India in 2021.

The report suggests that Maruti Suzuki is setting up an assembly line for the Jimny in one of its plants in India. The company aims to produce 4,000-5,000 units of the Jimny, most of which will be exported to international markets.

At present, the Jimny is built at Suzuki's plant in Kosai, Japan. This facility has an annual production capacity of 4,90,000 units. To meet the growing global demand for the Jimny, the carmaker is believed to have decided to utilize the capacity of its Indian plants.

As per the report, Maruti could introduce a 4x4 variant of the Jimny in India 6 months after exports commence. The car is rumoured to be priced in the sub-Rs. 10 lakh bracket and is likely to be sold through Maruti's Nexa retail channel.

The fourth-generation Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. In international markets, this engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.
