Rumour: Hyundai readying Eon with 1.0-litre engine

Hyundai Motor India is rumoured to be getting ready to introduce the Eon hatchback with a larger and more powerful engine.

The car is expected to be endowed with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder,  Kappa unit, which produces 65 bhp and 9.7 kgm of torque. This motor is likely to be borrowed from the European-spec i10 hatchback. In the Eon, it is expected to be tuned for better fuel-efficiency.

The Eon currently features a, 817 cc, 3-cylinder power plant, which develops 55 bhp and 7.6 kgm of torque. The engine upgrade will enable it to compete with other hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Chevrolet Spark and the recently launched Datsun GO.

At the moment, it is not known whether the Eon 1.0 will receive any tweaks to its styling. There is no information on the launch date or pricing of the car either.
