Rumour: General Motors to discontinue Enjoy MPV

After the recent announcement of shelving plans to launch the Spin MPV in India, General Motors is now rumoured to be discontinuing production of the Chevrolet Enjoy. The company has not commented on these rumours yet.

The MPV segment in India hasn't really seen many successful products over the past decade, mainly due to the hordes of crossovers that have flooded the market. While crossovers provide the people the carrying capabilities of MPVs along with butch looks of SUVs, MPVs are relatively plain to look at and unexciting to drive. As a result, except the Toyota Innova and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, no other MPV has managed to make a mark in the market.

The Enjoy is produced at the company's plant in Halol, Gujarat. The MPV's production will reportedly end this month and the automaker has already developed a stock of 3,900 units.

General Motors is also likely to discontinue the Sail hatchback and sedan during this financial year. The Sail sedan will be replaced by the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as a concept.
