Rumour: Ciaz SHVS (hybrid) to deliver 28kmpl!

Maruti Suzuki is on a mission to break the fuel efficiency records in India. A few months ago, the Celerio diesel was launched with an efficiency rating of 27.62 km/l, beating the Dzire with a rating of 26.59 km/l. This time around, Maruti's premium sedan is all-set to take the game to the next level. The Ciaz SHVS (hybrid) is rumoured to have an ARAI efficiency figure of 28 km/l!

This will be a replacement to the Ciaz diesel and is likely to be launched soon. The car will use the same 1.3 litre diesel motor but will be equipped with a Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS), which will improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The Ciaz SHVS is expected to come with an idling start / stop system, a larger battery and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). While the vehicle is coasting or braking, the ISG charges the batteries. The power is stored in the battery and the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration.

ET Auto also reports that this technology will be imported but the cost of imports will be offset by the lower excise duty as well as subsidy benefit under FAME - a scheme for the adoption and manufacture of electric and hybrid vehicles. The FAME incentive is applicable over and above the existing tax benefits.

The media report goes on to claim that the same technology is likely to make its way in the Ertiga in October. Maruti is also targeting the 30 km/l barrier with the new Swift and Dzire!
