Rumour: 4th-gen Suzuki Jimny to debut by end-2018

According to latest reports, the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny (Gypsy) might be launched by the end of 2018. It rumoured that the new Jimny might be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in October this year.

In August 2017, the first leaked images of the 2018 Jimny had surfaced online. The images revealed the new Jimny's 3-door design and boxy proportions. The front of the car is almost reminiscent of the Mercedes G-Wagen. It features circular headlamps with round turn signals and a 5-slat grille, while the front bumper houses a pair of fog lamps. At the rear, the Jimny has a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and rectangular tail lamps placed on the rear bumper. Inside, the car features a new dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment screen in the centre and a grab handle on the passenger side. It has a 3-spoke steering wheel and a twin-pod instrument cluster.

Suzuki hasn't disclosed the engines that will be offered on the Jimny, however rumours suggest that Suzuki might offer a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in addition to a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol unit. It will also have four-wheel drive and a low range gearbox.

Meanwhile, there has been no word regarding its India launch yet.
