Royal Enfield 650 Twins launched in India

Royal Enfield has launched the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor INT 650 in India. The bikes are priced at Rs. 2.65 lakh and Rs. 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.

The 650 Twins were first unveiled at the 2017 International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan, Italy. The Continental GT 650 measures 2,122 mm in length, 1,024 mm in width, 744 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,398 mm. The bike weighs 198 kg (no fuel) and comes with a 12.5-litre fuel tank. It features a cafe racer design with an optional single seat, rear set footrests and clip-on handlebars. 

The Interceptor INT 650 measures 2,122 mm in length, 1,165 mm in width, 789 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,400 mm. The seat is set slightly higher at 804 mm compared to 793 mm on the Continental GT 650. The bike weighs 202 kg (no fuel) and comes with a 13.7-litre fuel tank. The Interceptor is designed for street use and features a teardrop shaped fuel tank with knee recesses, dual seat and wider braced handlebars. Both models get circular headlamps and twin-pod instrument clusters. The bikes come equipped with 41 mm telescopic suspension at the front and twin coil-over shocks at the rear.

The Continental GT 650 and Interceptor INT 650 are powered by the same 648cc, air -cooled, fuel-injected, parallel twin cylinder engine. It produces 47 BHP @ 7,250 rpm and peak torque of 52 Nm @ 5,250 rpm. According to Royal Enfield, 80% of the torque is available from 2,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission via a slipper clutch. Both bikes get a single 320 mm front disc brake and a 240 mm disc brake at the rear and dual-channel ABS.

The bikes come with a 3-year standard warranty and roadside assistance. The deliveries are expected to commence from end of November. With the launch of the 650 twins, Royal Enfield has also announced an online booking facility. Customers would be able to book their bikes on this website and get delivery across any of the authorised dealership in India.

*Prices for the states of Karnataka and Kerala start at Rs. 2,34,020 and Rs. 2,33,878 for the Interceptor INT 650, Rs. 2,49,164 and Rs. 2,48,878 for the Continental respectively due to higher taxes in the two states.
