A single unit of the Range Rover Evoque convertible has been imported into India for homologation. This indicates that the launch of the open-top SUV in India is approaching. The car was earlier spotted on a flatbed truck in Tamil Nadu.

The Evoque convertible made its global debut in November last year and the company expects to launch it in around 170 countries across the globe by the end of 2016. It gets a black soft top roof that can be operated electrically. Land Rover claims that the Evoque Convertible's roof can be folded down in 18 seconds, and raised back into position in 21 seconds. The roof can be operated even when the car is moving at speeds up to 48 km/h.

In the international markets, the Evoque Convertible is offered with a choice of a petrol and a diesel engine - both being 2.0-litre, four cylinder units. Import records on Zauba show that the model imported into India is an HSE Dynamic variant, powered by a 2.0-litre, Si4 petrol engine. This engine is capable of churning out 237 BHP and 340 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with Range Rover's all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
