Quick spin in Thar Roxx: Feels like a generation ahead of 3-door Thar

Mahindra has given the 5-door SUV an extremely refined diesel engine. I found it to be much better than even the Toyota Fortuner.

BHPian robimahanta recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Thanks a lot, Jaggu and Viddy for the quick trial run of the Thar Roxx.

Positives:

  • Loved the slow speed ride compared to the 3-door Thar (even with updated dampers)
  • The steering was extremely light and it was very easy to drive around in the city.
  • The brakes were very sharp and way better than the 3 door.
  • Extremely refined diesel engine, couldn’t hear it at all. Found it much better than even the Fortuner.
  • Great music system, even though it was a tad bass-heavy. Hopefully, with some adjustments, it can be made better.
  • Overall, it felt like a generation ahead of the 3 door Thar.

Negatives:

  • All white will become a mess. Doesn’t have the feel of an off-roader, especially the interiors
  • Negligible storage space within the car. Almost useless door bin size.
  • I felt the rear seats are set too high
  • There was a weird strumming noise on hard acceleration, not sure what it was. Maybe car specific.
  • The headlights look aftermarket from the factory itself. It was blinding to oncoming traffic/people on the road. I am sure it wouldn’t be great in rain and fog just like most LED set ups.

Quirky grill, looks okayish in black

Lot of boot space. Wish the rear seats folded flat

Well laid out instrument cluster and buttons

The interior leds are crazy bright

Looking forward to a more exhaustive test drive soon. Especially of the 4x4 variant.
