New-gen Volkswagen Polo to be unveiled on June 16

Volkswagen has announced that the next-gen Polo hatchback will be internationally unveiled on June 16, 2017. This will mark the introduction of the sixth-generation model under the Polo brand name.

The new-gen Polo is built on Volkswagen Automotive Group's MQB A0 platform. It will be longer and wider than the current model, while the overall height will be decreased to give it a squatter and more planted stance. Despite an increase in size, the new Polo is expected to be around 90 kg lighter than the fifth-gen model.

The car has already been spotted without any camouflage and thus the major design changes made to the exteriors are already known. The overall design philosophy adopted by the hatchback appears to be an evolution of its predecessor. The grille and headlights are slimmer than before and have been styled in-line with the company's new design language. The side reveals a prominent character line running on the side, a steeply raked C-pillar and a new set of alloy wheels. Meanwhile the rear looks like a slightly pronounced version of the derriere of the fifth-gen Polo.

Volkswagen is expected to equip the new-gen Polo with three engine options - a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a new 1.6-litre diesel unit. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes and a 7-speed DSG automatic unit.
