New-gen Audi Q5 globally unveiled

Once launched in India it will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.

Audi has taken the wraps off the new-generation Q5 SUV. The third-generation iteration of the Audi Q5 is based on a brand-new platform and comes with a completely new design, along with a bunch of extra features and tech on the inside.

The new Audi Q5 now sits on the brand's new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). The design of the new Q5 is also completely new and in line with the brand's latest design language. Starting from the front, the new Q5 features a sleeker set of Matrix LED headlamps flanking a new grille design and a redesigned front bumper. The SUV also features LED taillights connected via an LED strip and dual-tone bumpers.

Inside, the new Audi Q5 borrows elements from the Q6 e-tron sibling. This includes the MMI panoramic display, housing the 11.9-inch digital driver's screen and the 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There is also an optional 10.9-inch front passenger display. The cabin comes packed with plenty of other comfort features, tech and safety equipment.

The new Audi Q5 is offered with three powertrain options. This includes a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 204 BHP and 340 Nm, paired to either FWD or AWD setup. The second is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 204 BHP and 400 Nm, with a quattro setup as standard. The range-topping SQ5 comes with a 3.0-litre V6 churning out 367 BHP and 550 Nm. All three powertrains come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and also a 48V mild-hybrid system, generating an additional 24 BHP and 230 Nm.

Audi states that the Q5 will get a plug-in hybrid variant at a slightly later stage. Prices for the new-generation Audi Q5 start from 52,000 euros and go up to 82,900 euros for the range-topping SQ5.
