My Triumph Scrambler 400 X: Four service centre visits in just 1300 km

They have been polite and courteous enough to try and get the starting issue resolved but couldn't hence my motorcycle is still with them.

Backstory

As I am writing this, my Scrambler 400 X has already covered 1300 kms over the last 7 months and it has already gone to the service center 4 times and is presently at the Triumph service center.

The 1st service was the usual 45 day/1000 kms , the 2nd one was for a new brake lever, ECU update and a paid oil pressure switch replacement (Still not sure why that wasn't covered in warranty). The 3rd one was for a regular checkup and also for a persisting issue since day 1.

My ride would never start on the 1st ignition press, it would take at least 3 or more cranks to get the engine started since day 1, especially if the bike turns off while riding or immediately after a ride. I have faced this issue at times even when trying to start the bike early in the morning.

Repair Attempts

During all three 3 services, I had repeatedly highlighted the issue, and the service center did try to address it by cleaning the buttons and the contact point. During the 3rd service, they claimed to even have cleaned the battery and other contact points as well.

On picking up the bike post service 3, when I tried starting it up, twice it started instantly and I made the mistake of not checking it thoroughly by taking a ride and then testing it. The moment I got home and came back after 30 mins, the problem was back.

Called the service center and showed them the issue on a video call, they asked to bring the bike back, but since it was late I took it back only today. They have promised to get to the bottom of the issue but I might get the bike back only after another 4 days.

The Triumph service center has been polite and courteous enough to try and get the issue resolved. I have let them know that I need the issue to be resolved.

I would request any knowledgeable Bhpians to help give me and idea of what might be wrong. The bike cranks but the engine won't start or just starts and dies immediately.

Also, I do not understand why the Triumph service center is so reluctant to replace parts.

I have also had issues with the indicators fogging up on seeing @aston_martyr 's post on the same issue, I requested a replacement under warranty and was told that Triumph has instructed to keep the bike in the Sun for 3-4 hrs for the indicators to dry.

  • This is a manufacturing issue as I have seen in numerous bikes at the service center with the same issue then why isn't it being addressed with a recall and replacement?
  • If it's not a manufacturing issue why is it only the rear indicators are affected and not the front ones?

I hope Triumph can sort out their niggles.
