My Hyundai Kona EV's range drop during monsoon: Surprising reason

The efficiency (at 10/11km/KWh) interestingly seemed only marginally better than the hot months(at 9/10km/Kwh), not something that i was expecting.

BHPian EVFan recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My Kona sees it's first monsoon. The efficiency (at 10/11km/KWh) interestingly seemed only marginally better than the hot months(at 9/10km/Kwh), not something that i was expecting. These were all short trips (stop & go) with some sections of driving on narrow + bad roads, made worse with the rains - in short a nightmare for efficiency.

A bit of digging around on the energy consumption screen helped me identify the culprit - ADS Auto Defogger system

The ADS seems to be quite energy intensive on the Kona. It's aggressive attempts to "Defog" meant that inspite of the cool ambient temperatures the AC was working at high load even at the highest temperature setting.

So after about a few weeks of testing, i can, with a good degree of confidence, say that the efficiency rose to almost 12/13km/KWh once the ADS was off. While this might be specific to Kona but worth a shot in other EV's also.
I am yet to test it, but with the ADS off there is a good possibility of getting even higher numbers on longer / highway runs.

Kindly ignore the highest values(14.6 & 13.3), that is another experiment with another automated system disabled. Since, it does not make sense, i need to test it more, to confirm if the results are consistent.
