MG ZS EV: Battery range & percentage gets stuck randomly

Recharging the car increments from the % seen. However, the equalization charge took more than an hour with the 7.2kw charger.

BHPian AutoEnthuHyd recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I am seeing a peculiar issue on my 2022 ZS EV. ODO is ~17k.

The battery percentage and range is getting stuck at 58% / 202 km, on the way down. Happened 2 weeks ago for the first time, and it was stuck at 58% even after running 40km. Subsequently, I did an equalisation charge and things seemed normal again.

However, the same thing happened again yesterday, stuck at 58%. I didn't recharge this time, and continued to use the car. After running for about 50km, the battery % seems to be working again. Based on my running, battery should have been 10% lower than what is being shown though.

All recent recharges were with either the wall charger / 7.2 kw charger.

During this period, the trip meter works fine.

Same values are seen on the App and instrument cluster.

Recharging the car increments from the % seen. However, the equalization charge took more than an hour with the 7.2kw charger.

I did an OTA update which was available. Didn't help... guess the update was just for the Maps.

Did anyone see a similar issue on the ZS EV? Any suggestions / inputs?

Hoping it wouldn't drop suddenly, like it does on some Tata EVs !!

Here's what BHPian Drzhivago had to say on the matter:

This is a very common issue and has been reported by many. Even I faced it for the first time in February or so and I was kind of worried but after talking with others I came to know that its nothing to worry about. The system is basically adjusting the SOC level and making it up to the correct level hence it gets stuck and then correct itself. You will always have more range than what is shown. Dont worry about it. But yeah even I hope there is some fix for this. I want to know if any new users after facing this? Most of the folks who reported this including me have their vehicles age at 1 year or 1.5 years and the ODO reading above 15k km. I want to know if this is battery age related. God Speed

Here's what BHPian shyampsunder had to say on the matter:

This is a common glitch and I have extensively tested this with an OBD dongle.

Summary: You have absolutely nothing to worry about, the car is conservative with its SoC and ensures that it's the minimum value that is returned.

This essentially happens when the BMS gets conflicting SoC information especially once you stop and start the car. So it prefers to hold the SoC constant while the actually SoC is higher.

No sudden drops in SoC etc happens with ZS EV. My car is approximately 1.5 years old and I have even taken it to 0% SoC and the car has worked flawlessly.

So don't worry about it and keep munching miles your car.
