Maruti YMC electric MPV to be based on eVX's skateboard platform

The YMC electric MPV is likely to debut in the second half of 2026.

According to media reports, Maruti Suzuki has lined up eight new cars, which include three EVs. One of them is an electric MPV, codenamed 'YMC'. It is said that it could share the eVX’s skateboard platform.

The Maruti YMC electric MPV will reportedly be based on a born-electric architecture derived from the 27PL skateboard platform developed jointly by Maruti and Toyota. It is also said that the car could get the same battery and electric motor options as the eVX. This could include 40 kWh and 60 kWh batteries, offering a maximum range of around 550 km.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to introduce its first pure-electric car, the eVX, around September-October 2024. This mid-size electric SUV will compete with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The YMC electric MPV is likely to debut in the second half of 2026.

Maruti Suzuki’s Vision 3.0 strategy also includes hybrid, CNG, flex-fuel and conventional petrol-powered vehicles. The carmaker will launch the new Swift and Dzire later this year.
