Maruti Suzuki cuts production by 60% in September

Maruti Suzuki is likely to lower production plans for 2021 by 5%.

Maruti Suzuki has announced that will cut production by 60% in September 2021 due to the ongoing chip shortage.

The carmaker has stated that the shortage of semiconductors is expected to adversely affect vehicle production at both Haryana and Gujarat plants. It is estimated that the total vehicle production volume across both locations could be around 40% of normal.

In August, production at Maruti's facilities was down by around 30-40%. It was reported that the carmaker is likely to lower production plans for 2021 by 5%, which is about 70,000-80,000 units.

If the supply of semiconductors continues to be affected, we could see more production cuts and would result in long waiting periods for popular models.
