Maruti starts testing EVs in India

Maruti Suzuki has commenced nation-wide fleet testing of its upcoming electric vehicles (EV).

According to the company, the cars will be put through tests that will help validate the technology under real world driving conditions. The prototypes are based on an existing model and are built at Maruti Suzuki's plant in Gurgaon.

Earlier, it was reported that Maruti Suzuki was testing a full-electric version of the Wagon R. The car is rumoured to be powered by a 72 V electric drive connected to a 10-25 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Reports suggest that around 50 prototypes are being built and will be tested in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Alliance partner Toyota could also benefit from the development of a Wagon R-based EV and could also launch a re-badged version of its own.
