Mahindra XUV5OO 1.99L gets an automatic option in NCR

Mahindra has secretly launched an automatic option for the XUV5OO 1.99-litre in Delhi NCR. This transmission system is the same 6-speed unit that is on offer across the country. But in NCR, it is mated to a smaller 1,997 cc mHawk diesel engine. The XUV5OO Automatic (link to our official review) is only offered with W6, W8, and W10 variants. There are no reports about an AWD Automatic variant on offer in the NCR yet.

In January 2016, Mahindra launched a new 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine in the XUV, in order to bypass the Supreme Court ruling that banned the sales of all diesel-powered vehicles in NCR, which had an engine capacity of more than 2,000 cc. But the new engine was only released with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra has now released an automatic gearbox as well.

Under the hood of the XUV5OO, the new 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine is mated to a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) which enables it to generate 140 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm @ 1,600-2,800 rpm.
