Mahindra, Maruti and Tata to jointly develop EV components

Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors will jointly develop components and systems for electric and hybrid vehicles.

The three auto majors have teamed up since the Government of India announced the launch of the FAME India scheme in April 2015. This incentive, which has been launched in metro cities, will be introduced in tier 2 and tier 3 cities along with smart cities in the coming year.

By working together, the manufacturers are looking to ensure common standards for all components and systems in order to keep costs down. This in turn, is expected to reduce the cost of ownership of electric and hybrid vehicles. However, each of the auto majors will have their own software IPs.

Mahindra has also revealed that is also planning to launch electric versions of the Verito sedan and Maxximo mini truck in a couple of months. The company is holding discussions with taxi aggregators for the inclusion of the vehicles in their fleets. Both the vehicles are likely to use the power train from the E2O.
