At present, the Mahindra e2o electric car is available only in select states of India such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, West Bengal, Gujarat, New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Chattisgarh. However, a test mule of the car spotted recently in Rajasthan has led to speculation that it might be introduced in the state soon.
Mahindra is believed to be testing the effectiveness of the e2o's air-conditioning in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, where the temperature averages over 40 degrees centigrade. The company could also be testing the car's performance in hot weather. The engine and other mechanicals of the test mule were identical to the e2o that is on sale at the moment.
The e2o has not been successful in the Indian market, partly due to its high price and partly due to the lack of infrastructure necessary for electrical vehicles. With the Government of India introducing the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme, Mahindra has slashed the prices of the e2o substantially. The company might use this opportunity to launch the car in other parts of India as well.
