Made in India Suzuki Super Carry unveiled in South Africa

The 'Made in India' Suzuki Super Carry pickup has been revealed in the South African market, where it is scheduled to launch next month. The Super Carry is a light-weight pickup truck, which is aimed at small businesses and cargo service providers. Prices of the vehicle start from 1,29,000 Rand, which is equivalent to Rs 5.58 lakh.

This pickup truck is capable of carrying a maximum payload of 750 kg, on a compact loading bay area which is 2.18 metres long and 1.49 metres wide. Talking about its dimensions, the Super Carry measures 3.8 metres in length and 1.56 metres in width. It has a ground clearance of 175 mm and a turning radius of 4.3 metres.

Suzuki South Africa has announced that the Super Carry will be powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This power plant will be able to produce 71 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 101 Nm @ 3,000 rpm.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Super Carry pickup in India later this year. But, in a diesel oriented market like ours, the Super Carry is likely to come equipped with a 0.8-litre, twin-cylinder diesel unit. This is the same engine that powers the Maruti Celerio, in which it develops 47 BHP and 125 Nm of torque. Earlier reports have also pointed towards the possibility of Maruti developing a 1.2-litre CNG powered variant of the Super Carry for the Indian market.

Once launched in India, the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry will compete with the current segment leader - the Tata Ace.
